The EU Ecolabel

The EU Ecolabel recognises special commitment to the environment. It is a label of the European Union, which is awarded for different product groups and services. The decisive factor is that these have a lower environmental impact over their entire life cycle than comparable products without the label. Different award criteria are defined for each product group. Campsites belong to the product group accommodation services. For example, it is required to use renewable energy sources, to save energy und water, to reduce the amount of waste produced and to promote the improvement of the local environment.

Campsites awarded with the EU Ecolabel have to fulfil müssen strict criteria and requirements and commit to continue to ensure the sustainable development of their business in the future. Mandatory criteria that must be met are, for example, the company’s contribution to the coal phase-out an the exclusive use of green energy . However, efficient technology must also be used: LED lighting, water-saving shower heads or toilet flushes are required. Since October 2018, campsites have already been subject to the new directive EU Ecolabel for accommodation services. ECOCAMPING was intensively involved in the amendment and design of this directive. ECOCAMPING advises interested and committed campsites on how to apply and also carries out the necessary assessments.
