Since 2000, the German Camping Association and the German Tourism Association have been developing a quality rating for campsites based on stars, similar to hotels. There is an extensive catalogue of criteria that deals with reception, service, sanitary facilities and pitches. A maximum of five stars plus superior can be awarded. The five stars mean that this campsite is exclusive in terms of overall facilities and shines with high-quality and first-class comfort. The facilities are generously sized and of a special quality. The condition of the campsite is checked again every three years. The campsites undergo the rating voluntarily and for a fee.
