If you camp sustainably, you need suitable accessories. This has become easier to find since the launch of ethicamper , an online shop that exclusively offers sustainable products for camping holidays – from lunch boxes to beach towels to composting toilets .
Elisa Fuchs and Patrick Lenzbauer from Graz founded ethicamper. The idea came about on their first trip in a converted camper van. Finding sustainable equipment for our camper was a challenge: The two researched for weeks, only to then order everything separately from various suppliers and retailers. They are now making this intensive work available to others with their online shop. Patrick Lenzbauer explains the process: "We select each article or supplier critically and specifically. We usually start with a background check of the company - philosophy, transparency, commitment to the environment and social issues, as well as any affiliations with corporate structures. If a company is fundamentally credible but cannot provide a certificate, we ask for appropriate evidence."
The Ethicampers generally exclude companies with a lack of transparency or dubious information. After the background check, they research the product level. If there are certificates or quality seals and the materials and processing are OK, they add the product to their range relatively quickly. If information is missing, such as the origin of certain materials or whether the product was really produced in Europe and not just the final processing step takes place here, they have this confirmed in writing .
Basically, the ethicampers do not want to offer compromise products .
