ECOCAMPS Hopfenburg meeting: How campsites are working on the topics of renewable energy supply, biodiversity and participation
In April 2026, several ECOCAMPS with EU Ecolabel and ECOCAMPING certification met at the Hopfenburg estate in the Swabian Alb to exchange information on energy, water and wastewater, natural areas and inclusion – i.e., what offers for guests look like, how people with different abilities can work together in the team and how information about environmental performance is provided clearly and transparently.
Participating were: Natur-Camping Langenwald , Höhencamping Königskanzel , Campingplatz Kratzmühle , Family Resort Kleinenzhof , SEB Leipzig , Hofgut Hopfenburg , Camping Drei Gleichen .

The day at Hopfenburg began with short presentations on current developments in energy, water/wastewater, and biodiversity at campsites. During the subsequent tour of the grounds, the estate demonstrated how these topics are implemented on-site – from technical solutions to the design of the spaces. The afternoon focused on inclusion: Presentations from Hopfenburg and SEB Leipzig explored how campsites can create structures where diverse guests and staff can find their place.

During a joint tour of the Hopfenburg estate, participants were able to see how these points look in practice – from technical solutions to natural areas and information services for guests. Experiences were shared and ideas gathered in discussion groups.
Thinking ahead together: Why exchange between campsites is so important
Meetings like the networking event at the Hopfenburg estate support the exchange between campsites. They help to further develop existing measures and test new ideas – with the aim of organizing camping holidays more responsibly, step by step, and providing transparent information about them.

How guests can recognize dedicated campsites
ECOCAMPS carry the EU Ecolabel and/or the ECOCAMPING award. Both systems operate with clear criteria – for example, regarding energy and water consumption, waste, wastewater, natural design, and environmental information. Campsites that hold these awards implement corresponding environmental and sustainability measures in their operations and undergo regular audits by external auditors.
