On the road with the i:woody bicycle camper for the European Ecolabel - ECOCAMPS
Due to the low water level in Lake Constance, the bicycle caravan was able to make a brief stop on the shore for a photo. The overnight stay will, of course, be at a sustainably managed campsite. Photo: ECOCAMPING

Launch on Europe Day: Particularly sustainably managed campsites can be recognized by the European Ecolabel. On Europe Day, May 9, ECOCAMPING will launch a roadshow for the EU Ecolabel on Lake Constance, visiting the award-winning campsites.

On behalf of the Federal Environment Agency and RAL gGmbH, the team will travel to selected camps on Lake Constance with a cargo bike and a wooden bicycle caravan. The roadshow will include interactive games and exciting information about the EU Ecolabel itself. Guests, curious visitors, and local residents can test the cargo bike, try their hand at Frisbee golf, or take part in a quiz. Even a pug will be along for the ride.

Start with the first

First, two campsites will be visited at separate times and independently of each other, followed by a circular tour including overnight stays in a bicycle camper. The roadshow begins on May 9th at the Litzelstetten-Mainau nature campsite and then stops at the Klausenhorn campsite on May 30th. These two campsites are operated by Marketing- und Tourismus Konstanz GmbH, a subsidiary of the City of Konstanz. They are among the first in Germany to receive the state-recognized and official EU Ecolabel. Litzelstetten-Mainau nature campsite impresses with its magnificent location and its simplicity combined with ecological sophistication. Klausenhorn campsite has been committed to greater sustainability for over 25 years and is even the cradle of ECOCAMPING.

Sustainable travel at the lake

The sustainable cycling tour will start on June 10th, directly after Pentecost, and stop at the Wahlwies campsite. This campsite, nestled in an orchard, aims to generate at least as much energy as it consumes. From Wahlwies, the group will continue by cargo bike and wooden caravan to Markdorf, where Camping Wirthshof, among other things, offers almost everything for daily needs in its farm shop, mainly regional and unpackaged. The campsite was also a pioneer of the EU Ecolabel and is striving to achieve it again. On June 11th, there will be an event here focusing on the EU Ecolabel. The following day, the bicycle caravan will visit the barrier-free CAP-Rotach campsite in Friedrichshafen, which, as an inclusive company, particularly lives up to its social responsibility. Half of the employees have severe disabilities; they have successfully entered the primary labor market.

Tour dates:

May 9: Nature Camping Litzelstetten-Mainau

May 30: Klausenhorn campsite

June 10: Camping Garden Wahlwies

11 June: Camping Wirthshof, Markdorf

June 12th: CAP Rotach, Friedrichshafen

For those interested in the technical side: The mini camper for bicycles is an i:woody, and the cargo bike is the Carrie model from Riese + Müller. The test ride took place in Konstanz on the banks of the Seerhein, with the bicycle bridge and the cathedral tower visible in the background.
